An Awesome Day at Newport

From the photos it looks like you’re having such a wonderful time. I’m envious.

You might not have been able to see that many mansions.  Most are probably set back off the street quite a ways and they’re spread out making it difficult to get to and see.

"Komal, it's 7:35 AM!" Jackie exclaimed. First I panicked and then sprang out my bed to see if Andrea was awake. After nearly banging on her door, I hurried to get ready.

We were expected to be at the Vartan-Gregorian Quad by 8:00 AM on Saturday morning for the Newport trip. Now, we only had 25 minutes to get ready, eat breakfast, and walk to our destination. Hastily, we got ready, met with Andrea, and speed walked to the location of the buses. We decided to have breakfast in Newport.

When we arrived at the Vartan-Gregorian Quad, we saw a huge assembly of people. Soon the buses arrived and we boarded them for a thrilling day.

An hour later, we arrived in the beautiful city of Newport. We were dropped by the Bowen Wharf and instructed to return there by 4:00 PM.

The first thing we decided to do was have breakfast. After a ten minute walk led by Jackie, we entered the Mad Hatter Bakery, the best bakery in town according to TripAdvisor. I purchased a mocka cupcake, a blueberry muffin, and a bottle of water. After enjoying a yummy breakfast, we headed out to explore the city of Newport.

In Newport, the streets were lined with numerous small shops and boutiques. Newport is great place to shop, however the prices are a little too expensive. Jackie, Andrea, and I went to many shops and bought some goods and souvenirs. We had a lot of fun walking, shopping, and meeting new people in Newport.

Later when our tummies grumbled, we decided to have lunch. We went to a pizzeria called Via Via Pizza. Lunch was fulfilling and delicious.

Although we really wanted to see the famous mansions of Newport, we were short on time. After getting a confusing variety of directions, we decided to drop the idea for today and to see the mansions some other day.  I was quite disappointed because I really wanted to see the renowned mansions, however I was hopeful that I might get an opportunity to go later with the rest of my cohort and friends.

With the time left, we returned to Bowen Wharf and explored the water side. Time flied by quickly and soon it was time to leave Newport and head back to Providence.

After arriving in Providence, my friends decided to get ready for the campus dance. On the other hand, I was excited to meet and welcome my friends from the Bay Area.

After Andrea and Jackie left, I walked to the Grad Center to meet with the rest of the girls and Ms. Neal. Excitedly, I started telling them all about Brown. They shared their traveling experience and how everything has been so far.

Then, we went to Kabob and Curry to have dinner. I ordered Malai Kofta and Garlic Naan. I absolutely enjoyed the dinner. Eating there reminded me of home and my mom's delicious cooking.

Soon we departed for our dorms. After an awesome day, I went to sleep with great plans for the future.
